Sternocleidomastomy
Sternocleidomastoid amputation is often used to correct congenital muscular torticollis. There are two types of congenital torticollis: congenital torticollis and muscular torticollis. Congenital torticollis is caused by congenital cervical spine developmental defects such as unsegmented cervical vertebrae, hemivertebra deformities, osseous fusion between the occipital bone and the atlas and the central vertebrae. Such torticollis is extremely rare. Congenital muscular torticollis is a deformity formed after a fibrous contracture of the sternocleidomastoid muscle on one side. It is mostly caused by birth trauma, and it is more common clinically; it is considered to be genetically related.
