Periodontal disease
Periodontal disease is a disease caused by inflammation of tooth supporting tissues including gums, cementum, periodontal ligaments and alveolar bone. It is one of the most common oral diseases and a major cause of tooth loss. However, not all of these patients are affected at the same time. Depending on the severity and extent of local inflammation, periodontal disease can be divided into two categories: gingivitis and periodontitis.
