Starch hydrolysis test

The starch hydrolysis test is a test for the hydrolysis of starch, a polysaccharide, into a monosaccharide. Microorganisms cannot directly use the starch of large molecules, and the macromolecular substances must be broken down by the produced extracellular enzymes before they can be absorbed and utilized by the microorganisms. Extracellular enzymes are mainly hydrolytic enzymes, which degrade large-molecular-weight substances into smaller compounds through the action of hydrolytic enzymes, which can be transported into cells. For example, amylase hydrolyzes starch into small molecules of dextrin, disaccharides and monosaccharides. The starch turned blue with iodine.
