Vertebral dentate fracture

Axial dentate fractures are not uncommon, accounting for 10% to 15% of adult cervical fractures and dislocations. Unfortunately, odontoid fractures have been reported from time to time at the first consultation. Any patient with persistent neck pain and stiffness after trauma, with or without nerve compression symptoms, should be given repeated X-ray examinations, including CT examinations, to avoid possible omission of fractures of the dentate process.
