Chronic fibrous thyroiditis
Chronic fibrous thyroiditis (chronic fibrous thyroiditis) is a relatively rare thyroid inflammation, characterized by the replacement of normal thyroid tissue with a large number of dense fibrous tissue. The report by Riedel (1897) first described the disease, so it is also called Riedels thyroiditis (RT). RT also has many names, such as invasive fibrous thyroiditis, chronic woody thyroiditis, Riedel goiter, chronic sclerosing thyroiditis, and so on. Riedel's research under the microscope shows that RT does not have the characteristics of malignant tumors, and simply wedge resection of the thyroid isthmus can effectively relieve the symptoms of tracheal compression.
