Chronic autoimmune thyroiditis
Chronic autoimmune thyroiditis is also called chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Hashimoto's disease, and so on. In 1912, 4 women with enlarged thyroid were first reported by Hashimoto, whose thyroid tissue “metastasis into lymphoid tissue” [struma lymphomatosa]. These patients developed hypothyroidism after surgery.
