Tongue muscle atrophy

The cranial nerve damage is usually caused by the tongue muscle being the first to invade, with atrophy of the tongue muscle, accompanied by tremor. Later, the palate, pharynx, laryngeal muscle, and chewing muscles also gradually shrink and become weak, resulting in blurred speech, difficulty swallowing, and weakness in chewing. Ball paralysis can occur as the first symptom or after atrophy of the limb. Tongue muscle atrophy can also be seen in nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
