Umbilical abdominal wall defect
Umbilocele, also known as umbilical hernia, is due to developmental defects in the mid-abdomen, peri-umbilical abdominal wall, and skin, muscle, and fascia defects during the period of 6 to 10 weeks, causing the fetal physiological midgut hernia to disappear or not to disappear. The contents of the abdominal cavity protrude outside the inner abdominal wall of the umbilical cord, and the surface is covered with peritoneum and amniotic membrane.
