The popping sound test is an auxiliary test method used to check whether the abdomen is normal. Auscultation in the abdomen can help to detect changes in the lower margin of the liver and trace ascites, and can also be used to determine the dilated stomach. When palpation of the lower border of the liver is unclear, this method can be used to assist demarcation. It is often used in patients with thick abdominal walls or who cannot satisfactorily cooperate with palpation. Sometimes it is also used to identify whether the right upper quadrant mass is an enlarged liver.
