Carotid pulsation test

Carotid pulsation test is an auxiliary test method to check whether the carotid artery is normal. During each cardiac cycle, the carotid artery wall is periodically undulating. The pulsations of the carotid arteries in normal people are not easy to see when they are quiet, and the cardiac stroke volume increases during strenuous activities, showing that the carotid arteries have weak pulsations. In the quiet state, the carotid arteries have obvious pulsations, which are found in patients with aortic valve insufficiency, hypertension, hyperthyroidism and severe anemia. Weakened or disappeared carotid arteries may have polyarteritis.
