Spinal schwannoma

Spinal schwannomas originate from the dorsal spinal nerve roots and can also produce subdural infiltration when they grow concentrically. Brachial plexus or lumbar plexus neurofibromas can invade and grow into the central epidural along multiple nerve roots. Schwann cell tumors next to the vertebra are usually located outside the epidural when they expand into the spinal canal. About 2.5% of spinal schwannomas are malignant.
