Total bilirubin
Red blood cell total bilirubin is a metabolite of iron-containing porphyrins such as hemoglobin and myoglobin in the body. Bilirubin in serum is unbound bilirubin and bound bilirubin. When liver cells are damaged, bile ducts are blocked, red blood cells are destroyed, or life span is shortened, bilirubin metabolism is often abnormal and jaundice occurs clinically. Bilirubin metabolism test is mainly used to understand the presence and absence of jaundice, and to identify its type.
