Herpes simplex keratitis
The corneal inflammation caused by herpes simplex virus infection is called Herpes simplex keratitis (HSK). HSV-1 keratitis is a common and serious keratopathy, and it ranks first in the incidence of keratopathy and the cause of blindness. Herpes simplex virus keratitis is currently the most serious common keratopathy, and it has been rising and intensifying in recent years. Due to the widespread use of antibiotics and corticosteroids, their incidence is on the rise. Visual function is often severely compromised due to recurrent attacks, and there is no clinically effective drug for relapse control, thus becoming a major cause of blindness worldwide.
