Ureteral spasm

The ureter is a slender tubular organ composed of muscle and mucous membranes. It is located in the retroperitoneal space. The surrounding ureter is well protected and has a considerable range of motion. Sudden contractions of muscles, commonly known as cramps, can cause sudden pain and uncoordinated muscle movements. Straightening the muscles of the affected area by the patient, usually reduces the degree of spasm.
