Malignant pleural effusion

Malignant pleural effusion refers generally to pleural metastasis of a malignant tumor or pleural effusion caused by a malignant tumor of the pleura itself. Infection with cancer, pain, and pericardial effusion are common complications of advanced cancer. A large amount of pleural effusion caused compressive atelectasis, restrictive ventilatory disorder, respiratory failure, and reduction in return of blood volume, which seriously affects respiratory circulation function and directly threatens the life of patients.
