Protein-binding iodine includes thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), monoiodotyrosine, diiodotyrosine, and iodine in trace thyroglobulin. The majority of serum protein-binding iodine is iodine in thyroxine, so measuring protein-binding iodine can reflect the level of thyroid hormone.
