Oral cholecystography

Oral cholecystography is a common test for diagnosing gallbladder disease. For this test, a drug called a gallbladder contrast agent is administered orally. The commonly used contrast agents are iopanoic acid and iodofenamic acid. After the drug is absorbed into the body, it is mainly excreted by the liver through the bile, so it contains a contrast agent. Bile enters the gallbladder from the bile duct. After the gallbladder is concentrated, the gallbladder is filled with bile containing a high concentration of contrast agent.
