Erythropoietin

Erythropoietin (EPO) is a glycoprotein produced by the kidneys. EPO may stimulate hematopoietic pluripotent stem cells to form red blood cell progenitor cells, but it is also believed that it acts on red blood cell progenitor cells and later cells. In stem cell culture, two types of colonies can be obtained: explosive red colony forming units (BFU-E) and erythropoietin-responsive colony forming units (CFU-E) after adding EPO. In fact, EPO has an effect on the cells of the entire red blood cell system.
