Serum total iron binding capacity

Serum total iron binding capacity (TIBC) refers to the maximum amount of iron that can bind to all transferrin in 100 ml of serum is called total iron binding capacity. About 30% of transferrin in normal human blood circulation is saturated. Transferrin levels are usually measured indirectly by measuring total iron binding capacity. Because there is still a very small amount of iron in the serum that binds to other proteins, the measured TIBC results cannot fully reflect the content of transferrin. The simultaneous detection of TIBC and serum iron has greater clinical significance.
