Arterial auscultation
Arterial auscultation is an auxiliary examination method to check whether the blood vessel pulse is normal. If vascular disease is suspected, auscultation can be performed in the carotid artery (the inner edge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, the height of the upper thyroid cartilage), the subclavian artery, the renal artery, the abdominal aorta, the brachial artery, and the femoral artery. Under normal circumstances, two heart sounds consistent with S1 and S2 can be heard only on the carotid artery and the supraclavicular artery, which are called normal arterial sounds. Arterial murmur is more common in peripheral arteries, but also in pulmonary and coronary arteries. Through this examination, you can determine the lesion site and the corresponding symptoms.
