Streptococcus pneumonia meningitis in children
Streptococcus pneumoniae meningitis is more common in infancy, and it can also occur in newborns. Spread, more common in winter and spring. The incidence of Streptococcus pneumoniae meningitis is second only to epidemic meningococcal meningitis, and often secondary to upper respiratory infections, otitis media, pneumonia, sinusitis, mastoiditis, sepsis, and traumatic brain injury. About 20% of the cases have no primary lesions to find.
