Optic glioma
Optic nerve glioma is a benign tumor that occurs in the glial cells in the optic nerve. Glial cells are support cells of the central nervous system and ganglia. Glial cells are divided into astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and microglial cells. Glioblastomas that occur in the optic nerve are almost all astrocyte tumors, and they mostly occur in childhood fibers. Shaped astrocytes, so also known as juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma (JPA). The optic nerve is divided into 4 segments according to its location: intraocular, intraorbital, intracanal, and intracranial optic nerves. Optic gliomas can occur in any of the 4 segments. The optic nerve in the orbital segment is the longest, and gliomas are more common in this segment.
