Dislocation of sternoclavicular joint

The sternoclavicular joint is composed of the enlarged articular surface of the inner end of the clavicle and the sternal notch with a cartilage disc in between. The stability of the sternoclavicular joint mainly depends on the joint capsule, the anterior and posterior sternoclavicular ligaments, and the interclavicular ligament. The normal sternoclavicular joint has a range of about 40. The joints that connect the proximal clavicle, the proximal sternum, and the sternal stem are separated and displaced. Occurs in young adults, more men than women.
