Renal diverticulum
Renal diverticulum is a cyst cavity that covers the transitional epithelial cells in the renal parenchyma. It communicates with the renal pelvis or kidney via a narrow channel. Diverticulum has no secretory function, but urine can flow back into the diverticulum. The disease was first described by Rayer in 1841. It can be multiple and is located anywhere in the kidney, but the upper kidney is more susceptible.
