Salivary stone disease
When stones form in the salivary duct or gland and cause a series of symptoms and pathological changes, it is called salivary stone disease. The clinical manifestations are mainly obstruction symptoms and salivary gland enlargement. The disease is rare, with a high incidence in middle-aged people and a high incidence in men. Submandibular gland sialoliths are the most common, followed by parotid glands. There are more sialoliths in the duct than sialoliths in the gills, and most of them show chronic inflammation. A few cases may be accompanied by biliary or urinary stones.
