Water and salt metabolism disorders

Water and inorganic salts (electrolytes) are important constituents of the body, as well as important constituents of body fluids. Body fluids are the internal environment of cell life activities. Their constant capacity, osmotic pressure, pH, and appropriate concentration of various ions play an important role in ensuring normal cell metabolism. For example, hypotonic dehydration is the simultaneous loss of water and sodium, but less water loss than sodium loss. This situation is the metabolic imbalance of water and inorganic salts.
