Non-ossifying fibroma

Non-ossifying fibroma (NOF) is a rare fibrous tissue tumor. This tumor was previously thought to be a tumor-like lesion, a metaphyseal fibrous cortical defect. In 1942 Jaffe and Lichtenstein considered it a true tumor, and three years later Hatcher considered it a metaphyseal fibrous defect and a tumor-like lesion. In 1958 Jaffe was officially named a non-ossifying fibroid. At present, it is considered to be benign fibrous histiocytic tumor.
