Closed spinal cord injury
Closed spinal cord injury refers to compression, edema, bleeding, contusion or rupture of the spinal cord or cauda equina caused by a fracture or dislocation of the spine, without associated trauma to the outside world. 14% of spinal fractures are associated with spinal cord injuries, and the vast majority are single-segment injuries.
