Heart penetration injury
Heart penetrating injuries account for approximately 2.8% to 12% of total chest injuries in hospitals. All parts of the heart can be injured, but the injury rate is related to the exposure range of each heart cavity in the anterior chest wall. The hospital mortality rate for penetrating heart injuries was 60% for bullet wounds and 15% for stab wounds.
