Strong acid and alkali poisoning

Strong acids and alkalis are corrosive agents, which can cause severe chemical burns of the esophagus after ingestion. Common strong acids are sulfuric acid, nitric acid and hydrochloric acid. Common strong bases are sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, sodium chloride, potassium chloride and less corrosive sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, etc.
