Central retinal artery occlusion

The central retinal artery is the sole source of nutrition for the inner retinal layer. Because this artery belongs to the terminal artery, there is no anastomosis between the branches. Once the blockage occurs, the blood supply to the inner layer of the retina is interrupted, causing acute ischemia and causing severe visual impairment. The onset of this disease is rapid. Most are monocular, and the other eye can be affected within days or years. The age of onset is more than 40 years old. There were no significant differences in gender.
