Pulmonary embolism in the elderly

Pulmonary embolism (PE) refers to pathological and clinical syndromes caused by the impaction material entering the pulmonary artery and its branches, and blocking the blood supply to the lung tissue. Common emboli are blood clots. Rarely, there are new biological cell masses, fat droplets, and air bubbles. Because the lung tissue has dual pulmonary artery-bronchial artery blood supply, and direct gas exchange can be performed between the lung tissue and the alveolar gas, most pulmonary embolism does not necessarily form an infarction without obvious clinical manifestations. Pulmonary embolism is a common disease in the elderly.
