Progressive muscle palsy
Acute poisoning manifestations, inhalation of high concentrations of barium dust can cause acute poisoning. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, slow pulses, progressive muscle palsy, heart rhythm disturbances, and significantly decreased blood potassium, etc., which can result in death from heart rhythm disturbances and respiratory muscle paralysis. Severe cases can be complicated by acute renal failure, hypoxic encephalopathy, and acidosis.
