Fungal esophagitis
Candida is the most common pathogen of fungal esophagitis. Candida albicans is the most common, followed by Candida tropicalis and Candida cruz. Other rare species include actinomycetes, mucormyces, and some Plant fungi, etc. These bacteria are obtained from the external environment, not endogenous flora, and the primary esophageal infections caused by them are only seen in patients with severe immunodeficiency.
