Rheumatic fever in children

Rheumatic fever is one of the major pediatric diseases that endangers the life and health of school-age children. The disease is non-purulent inflammation of systemic connective tissue, which mainly invades the heart and joints. Serum membranes, blood vessels, etc. can be affected, but heart damage is the most serious and common. Sometimes the first attack can damage the heart, and repeated attacks can leave two-thirds of children with chronic heart valve disease. The clinical manifestations are mainly carditis and arthritis, with fever, toxemia, rash, subcutaneous nodules, and chorea.
