Stomach twist

The lower end of the normal stomach is fixed by the duodenum, and its shape is maintained by the gastrosplenic ligament, gastroduodenal ligament, gastric sacral ligament, and gastric-hepatic ligament. Gastric torsion (volvulus of stomach) is a disorder of the fixed mechanism of the normal position of the stomach or a disease in its adjacent organs that causes gastric displacement, causing the stomach itself to undergo a full or partial abnormal twist along different axes. It can be transient, with almost no symptoms, and can cause obstruction and even ischemic necrosis.
