Pediatric malnutrition wasting
The malnutrition of infants and young children who are mainly deficient in heat energy is called malnutrition wasting. Malnutrition wasting is caused by chronic inadequate food intake, and it is prominent that chronic energy shortages or insufficient use of food can not maintain normal metabolism, and can only consume their body tissues to provide energy to maintain the minimum life metabolism needs. There is a chronic nutritional deficiency in which there is no gain or loss of weight, stagnation of growth and development, and gradual disappearance of fat. It is a type of extreme wasting that is more common in infancy, also known as infantile atrophy (inanition, athrepsia). Muscle atrophy, loss of energy and fatigue. At the same time, the system of the whole body is dysfunctional and the immunity is low, which creates conditions for many diseases, especially infant pneumonia and diarrhea. According to the different clinical manifestations, it can be divided into: lean type, edema type and mixed type; according to the degree of malnutrition, it is divided into mild, moderate and severe; according to the pathogenesis, it is divided into acute, subacute and chronic PEM. Acute onset is often accompanied by water and electrolyte disorders; chronic patients are often accompanied by a lack of multivitamins and trace elements, and about 3/4 of the children are accompanied by zinc deficiency.
