Pediatric empyema
Empyema (pyothorax) refers to the accumulation of pus in the pleural cavity, so it is also called purulent pleurisy, which is most common in infants and young children. Generally, after thoracentesis is deposited in a test tube for 24 hours, 1/10 to 1/2 should be solid. Less than 1/10 is called pleural effusion.
