Levator anal syndrome
Paroxysmal rectal pain due to levator anal spasm. Transanal pain (transient pain in the rectum) and tail pain (pain in the tail region) are variants of the levator anal syndrome, which can occur in both men and women. Most of the pain has nothing to do with bowel movements. A seizure lasts 20 minutes and can be related to sitting or spontaneous. It may make patients awake from sleep. Pain is often described as unexplained pain equivalent to high in the rectum. Anal pain cannot be relieved after venting or defecation, and it relieves itself within minutes. In severe patients, pain can persist for several hours with recurrence. Therefore, patients may have multiple rectal surgeries without success.
