Pediatric mercury poisoning
Mercury (mercury, Hg) is a silver-white liquid metal, commonly known as mercury, which has fluidity and has characteristics of easy evaporation at normal temperature. Mercury and its compounds are toxic. Mercury poisoning can occur if the amount is too large or if it is continuously applied for a long time. Metal mercury is generally not used as a medicine, it is only used as a raw material for filling teeth in dentistry, and it is used in the combined state of mercury and other metal materials, and will not be absorbed by the body. Common mercury compounds are mercury sulfide, mercury chloride, mercury chloride, mercury oxide, and organic mercury pesticides. There are many mercury-containing drugs, such as mercury, cinnabar, Dashengdan, Xiaoshengdan, mercury powder, red mercury, etc. Some Chinese medicines also contain mercury compounds, mostly mercury oxide. Mercury poisoning in children is mainly caused by accidental taking or taking excessive mercury-containing drugs.
