Esophageal leiomyoma

Leiomyoma of esophagus is a benign tumor that originates from esophageal smooth muscle. It occurs in the middle part of the esophagus, followed by the lower part, and the neck is rare. Clinically, most of the lesions occur between the walls, the rest can be in the cavity, subadventitia and a few are diffuse, which makes the esophageal muscular layer appear extensive tumor-like hyperplasia. Benign esophageal tumors are rare, accounting for about 0.5 to 0.8 of all esophageal tumors. Because the symptoms are mild or asymptomatic, patients often do not seek medical attention or are ignored by clinicians. In recent years, due to advances in X-ray and other examination techniques, the number of cases found has gradually increased, of which 90% are esophageal leiomyomas.
