Neurogenic keratitis

Neurotrophic keratitis is a degenerative disease of corneal epithelial healing disorders. It is characterized by a lack of corneal sensation, resulting in dissolution and perforation of the corneal stroma. There are several causes of corneal hyposensory, from the trigeminal nucleus to the corneal nerve endings. Among them, herpes virus infection and trigeminal eye branch damage are the most common causes. If the cause is not found, the possibility of abuse of anesthetic eye drops should be considered. When the corneal sensation is damaged, the cholinergic fiber's nutritional effect on the corneal epithelium disappears, and the resulting reduced epithelial growth rate affects wound healing, even if there is no trauma, it may cause epithelial defects.
