Diabetes in the elderly
The concept of the age of senile diabetes is not yet unified. Most people in China use diabetes patients over 60 years old, which was proposed by the United Nations in 1980, as senile diabetes. In some countries, 65 years is the dividing line. According to the time of onset of diabetes, senile diabetes can be divided into senile onset diabetes and young adults who continue to the elderly. The former are almost all type 2 diabetes; the latter are mostly type 2 diabetes, but also include a very small number of patients with type 1 diabetes. In particular, when people reach old age, they have physical and psychological degradation, and it is easy to coexist with many patients. This makes elderly diabetes more complicated and difficult to treat. Therefore, many characteristics of senile diabetes must be understood in order to prevent and treat it reasonably.
