Moderate mental retardation
Moderate mental retardation: Obvious developmental retardation in childhood, but most can learn to take care of themselves by themselves to a certain extent, and acquire sufficient communication and learning skills. Adults need different levels of support to live and work in society. IQ is approximately 35 to 49 (adult intellectual age is equivalent to 6 to 8 years old). Mental retardation means that during the developmental period (under 18 years of age), the performance intelligence is significantly lower than the average level, that is, lower than the two average difference of -70, and there is a deficit in social adaptive behavior. Clinically, mental retardation is divided into 4 levels: mild (50-70 IQ); moderate (35-49 IQ); severe (20-34 IQ); extremely severe (IQ 20 or less). The moderate mental retardation has an IQ of 40-54, accounting for about 10-20% of mental retardation. A considerable number of patients can find some special causes, such as birth injury, infection, and the presence of genetic diseases. Different etiologies may have different physical manifestations. Some patients are often accompanied by mental disorders and need to be handled by the medical department. They are also responsible for providing consultation to the education and civil affairs departments. There is no accurate figure for the prevalence of moderate mental retardation in China, which is about 2-3 ‰
