Facial edema
Puffiness occurs when too much water is added to the body and cannot be drained. At the same time as weight gain, eyelid puffiness, ankle or calf edema may occur. Most of the edema is caused by kidney or heart disease. However, sometimes ascites from liver disease, nutritional imbalance caused by insufficient protein, or hormonal abnormalities of menopausal disorders can also cause edema. If the swelling begins on the face and then spreads to the whole body, the possibility of kidney disease is high, but it may also be acute nephritis or kidney disease.
