Peri-umbilical skin bruises
In acute pancreatitis, the overflowing pancreatic juice contains a large amount of pancreatic enzymes that diffuse along the interstitial space, penetrate into the subcutaneously and dissolve subcutaneous fat, rupture the capillaries and bleed. The blue-purple skin around the umbilicus is called the Cullen sign.
