Tonsils becoming smaller and tougher are one of the symptoms of chronic tonsillitis. Sexual tonsillitis is a chronic inflammation of the tonsils. Most of them are caused by repeated episodes of acute tonsillitis or poor drainage of the crypts, resulting in chronic inflammation of the tonsil crypts and their parenchyma. It can also occur after some acute infectious diseases.
