β2-M is a protein composed of a polypeptide chain with a molecular weight of 118 kD. It is synthesized and secreted by normal or malignant hematopoietic, mesenchymal or epithelial cells. The presence of β2-M in cerebrospinal fluid and its increase in concentration indicate that the central nervous system has more severe pathological damage.
