Serum acetoacetate

Acetoacetic acid is one of the main components of incomplete oxidation of fats to form ketone bodies. Due to hunger, diabetes, etc., fat mobilization increases, the amount of ketones synthesized in the liver exceeds the ability to utilize extrahepatic tissues, ketone bodies accumulate in the body, cause ketemia and keturia, cause plasma pH to drop, and lead to acidosis.
