Heme-binding protein

HPx is a multi-molecular form of protein synthesized by liver cells with a molecular weight of 57000. It has a high affinity for hemoglobin and methemoglobin. 1mg of HPx can be combined with heme or methemoglobin at a ratio of 1.11g to form a complex. The blood circulates until the liver is cleared.
